Before you give notice
- Check your tenancy contract for the notice period and any conditions
- Give notice in writing in the way the contract requires
- Agree the handover date with the landlord or agent
Two to four weeks before
- Ask building management about the move-out permit and service lift booking
- Book movers and, if needed, junk removal for anything you are not taking
- Decide what to sell, donate or dispose of
- Arrange final utility bills and disconnection with your providers
The week of the move
- Clear balconies, store rooms and any parking storage
- Remove packaging and leftover items
- Repair small damage covered by your contract
- Book a deep clean if the contract requires it
Handover day
- Do the inspection with the landlord or agent
- Return all keys, cards and remotes
- Take photos and videos of the empty property
- Keep copies of final bills and the handover confirmation
Don't leave items behind
Items left behind can delay the handover or be charged against your deposit. If you are short of time, a junk removal team can clear everything you are not taking on the same day as your movers, as long as the building allows it.
